About

Parages is a Montreal based music label having for goal to make discover a seedbed of local producers sharing a common love for the electronic “groove” and surrealist sound landscapes.

The production is underground here, not in its inaccessibility, but in the way in which it was conceived: with against current of the generic electronic productions.Here the music is about sharing and experimentations. The majority of the producers result at the same time from the world of the "impromptu" music of the noise scene that the pop one to be described now through dancing electronic compositions.

It is difficult to put under only one kind the music here presents, which makes all the richness of these compositions.

Jonattan Levingstone

This is not the story of a seagull, but a musical journey.

When all of us at a young age were trying to understand the meaning of the alphabet, he was diving his ears into the wonderful disco world of Sylvester. The discovery of electronic music was the next logical step being a night explorator and an avid music lover. Back in Montreal, Jonattan Levingstone is one of the founding members of the music label Parages and the Cocktail Club Soundsystem crew. A dj known for his eclectic set where he travels between old shiny rhythms, dusty house music and melodic techno.

Jonattan Levingstone has played at Igloofest, Pop Montreal and many sweaty Montreal afterhours.

Leboeuf et Laviolette

Electronic-music duo Leboeuf et Laviolette was formed in Montreal in 2008. They began making more noisy sound collages, in tribute to Quebecois sculptors Henri Laviolette and Orel Leboeuf. But the siren call of dance music was just too strong. So, for the last two years they’ve dedicated themselves to rhythms that are sometimes nostalgic and always electrifying and over-the-top. There influences are taken from underground house music to dub sound sound system, sparkled time to time by hip-hop. Leboeuf et Laviolette has performed in the latest edition of piknik electronic and igloofest in Montreal. The duo is made of Jean-Francois Lauda and David Lafrance.

Recife

RECIFE is Francis Amireault's solo booty electronic project. From the time he's been born his love of music has expanded. For the past 15 years, he has played, recorded, performed, produced and covered many grounds, from garage rat & roll to electronic abstractions to large ensemble compositions. 

He favours colours and the raw/ instinctive feels of sound for sound. More to come, but now let's go to the moon.

Simon Called Peter

130 bpm, FM synthesis, an unhealthy passion for carlights games on your bedroom ceiling, jazz and disco. Simon Called Peter won’t let you down.

Simon Called Peter played at Montreal’s Mutek 2011 and Igloofest 2012 on top of participating in numerous underground dance nights along with members of the cocktail club soundsystem and the Esl crew. Strongly influenced by the Detroit techno house scene, his live performances are always vibrant ecstatic and genuine.

Menjai

Menjai has made a career out of blending luxuriant balearic disco beat with all house music genre for the last fifteen years.

Underground parties in the 90's in the south of France with Hydrodisko, Lovebox nights in Toulouse , raging loft-dancing in Paris "Laurence Savart Club" , art spaces exhibition or Pop Montreal appearance , Menjai always turned on even the most hard to please crowd.

Now Menjai is launching Parages Music with his Montreal friends.

Moonstarr

Moonstarr is one busy cat. If he ain't on the phone holding things down on the business end for PTR, he's hunkered down behind closed doors over his synths, drum machines, and samplers to bang out mind-melding beats.

Citing musical influences as diverse as Underground Resistance , DJ Premier, Baden Powell, Zakhir Hussein and Sun Ra, Moonstarr's sound has continuously evolved with releases on such noteworthy labels as Sonar Kollectiv, Guidance, Twisted Funk, Planet E, MPS, Compost, Do Right! Music and his home, Public Transit Recordings. He collaborated on musical projects for indie soul, electronic, and jazz heavyweights such as Jazzanova, Recloose, 4hero, Ennio Morricone, A:XUS, LAL, Ivana Santilli and more. In the process, Moonstarr has gained worldwide acclaim for his music from veteran DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Rainer Truby, Laurent Garnier, Marc Mac, Carl Craig, and DJ Spinna and from various publications like Straight No Chaser, XLR8R, Remix and Exclaim.

Besides running Public Transit Recordings, the label he co-founded with Dialect (Mano Narayanan) in 1998, Moonstarr is busy playing shows and rocking dancefloors from Berlin to Tokyo to Puerto Rico to all points in between. His trademark live performances have graced such distinguished venues as London UK's legendary CO-OP club night, San Francisco's BetaLounge, and the eclectic Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, to name but a few.

Basic Soul Unit

Hong Kong born and raised in Canada, Stuart Li aka Basic Soul Unit has been steadily making his mark in underground electronic music circles since his first release in 2003. Stuart grew up listening to Toronto’s college radio stations and attended after hours parties playing underground house music. He later worked at Cosmos Records store which dealt vintage Jazz, Soul, Funk, Latin, Brazilian, Disco, House & Hip Hop to crate diggers both local and from abroad. Reflecting his diverse interest in music, Stuart's productions can swing from lush and soulful to crunchy jacking house & techno. He has released and remixed music on respected labels such as Dolly, Philpot, Mathematics, Mule Electronic, Versatile, Ostgut Ton, Créme Organization & New Kanada. 2012 promises to be an exciting year for Basic Soul Unit as it will see the release of his first long player on Chicago’s Still Music.

As with his productions, Stuart's strength as a DJ is his versatility. Depending on the night and the crowd, he can throw down melodic techno, heavy jacking sounds, deep house, disco, and often a combination of these. Stuart’s journey as a DJ has taken him to Berlin (Panorama Bar), Tokyo (Yellow, Loop, Womb), Stockholm, Barcelona, Madrid, Oslo, Glasgow, St Petersburg , New York & more.

The Basic Soul Unit live set debuted in Toronto in February 2012 and will debut in Europe (Glasgow) in March. Using a combination of hardware and digital technology, the live set expresses the rawness and honesty of Stuart’s productions

MR DE'

After over ten years of work as a producer and nearly twenty years of making electronic music, Mr. De' has a sound drawn from a number of funk-based urban sounds, blending them together into a composite whole that emphasizes up-tempo booty shakin' over the chin-stroking styles of techno. Following the release of his debut album and the continuing success of Electrofunk Records, Ade has solidified his position at the forefront of Detroit dance music.
